Common rail diesel injectors are the heart of modern diesel engines. When one fails, the whole vehicle suffers: hard starting, smoke, power loss and expensive downtime. This guide explains the 7 most common injector failure symptoms, why the part number printed on your injector is the only safe way to order a replacement, and how Bosch-style reference numbers such as 0445 110 318 are structured.
7 Symptoms of a Failing Common Rail Injector
1. Hard starting — longer cranking, especially cold, because the injector no longer builds correct rail pressure or atomizes fuel properly.
2. Rough idle and vibration — one cylinder firing unevenly makes the whole engine shake at idle.
3. Black or white smoke — incomplete combustion from a dripping or clogged nozzle.
4. Increased fuel consumption — a leaking injector dumps fuel without burning it.
5. Engine knock / metallic noise — incorrect injection timing or quantity causes combustion knock.
6. Oil dilution — fuel leaking past the injector into the cylinder washes down into the oil.
7. Limp mode with fault codes — the ECU detects injector circuit or balance faults (e.g. P-codes for injector circuit / cylinder balance) and limits power.
If you see several of these at once, have the injectors tested before replacing parts blindly — but when replacement is needed, the rule is simple: match the number, not the shape.
Why the Part Number Matters More Than the Photo
Common rail injectors look similar but are calibrated differently: the same body can be built with different nozzles, valve assemblies and opening pressures for different engines. Two injectors that look identical can be completely incompatible. Always read the number engraved on the injector body (e.g. 0445 110 318) and, if possible, the nozzle number (e.g. DLLA 156P 1719) before ordering.
Reading a Bosch 0445 Reference Number
Bosch common rail injectors use the 0445 prefix followed by three groups of three digits: 0445 xxx xxx. The middle and last groups identify the specific calibration and application. For example, the 0445 110 318 (also listed as 0445 110 361) is a Bosch-type injector used on Yunnei D19TCI (Eu3) engines, with nozzle DLLA 156P 1719 and valve assembly F00VC01367. It is a very common unit in Chinese-built light trucks and vans exported worldwide — see our 0445 110 318 injector page for full references.
Other frequently requested Bosch 110-series units in our stock include the 0445 110 291 (FAW CA4DC / Great Wall pickup), the 0445 110 293 (Great Wall 2.8TC / Haval / Wingle), and the 0445 110 305 (JMC 4JB1) — each page lists the matching nozzle and valve assembly references.
Nozzle, Valve Assembly and Injector — What to Order
Workshops sometimes only need one part of the set: the nozzle (e.g. DLLA 156P 1719), the valve assembly (e.g. F00VC01367) or the complete injector. If you repair rather than replace, tell us which component you need and read the number on the part itself. If you replace the complete unit, give us the full injector number — plus the engine model (e.g. Yunnei D19TCI, JMC 4JB1, Great Wall 2.8TC) so we can double-check compatibility.
